In August 2024, The New York Times described Berkeley, California as "the most liberal city in America." That observation sparked an idea: What if we celebrated civic identity—not political ideology, but the unique personality a place develops over time?
These four designs aren't about converting anyone to a particular position. They're for people who find cities fascinating, who appreciate local character in an increasingly homogeneous world, and who think a place's reputation—whatever it is—tells us something worth examining.
